HONG KONG: The Youth Essay Contest – a collaboration between the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong Kong and The Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy – is taking place again this year. The deadline is February 29, 2016.
Judges will chose one talented young Hong Kong journalist or aspiring journalist (aged 18 to 26) based on an original essay. The winner will travel to Italy, thanks to Cathay Pacific, to represent Hong Kong on the FEFF Campus, which hosts a select number of young writers from around the world every year. These budding critics attend screenings and press conferences; conduct interviews; and produce coverage for both the FEFF newsletter and outside media.
The Youth Essay Contest aims to encourage young journalists and critics to explore issues of free speech and free expression, particularly through cinema. It is run and judged by the Human Rights Press Awards, which is organized by the FCC, along with Amnesty International Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Journalists Association.
Applicants should submit an English-language essay of 400 words maximum about a film that is related to human rights, and how it moved them personally. The deadline is February 29, 2016.
